A Sample Essay on Strategic PlanningAs a professor of marketing, I always asked my students to prepare their own essay on strategic planning. I wanted to ensure that my students understood how critical strategic planning was to any successful company. So, in the Spring semester of my first year of teaching, I made sure that my students spent time preparing and analyzing a strategic plan and essay. The following Spring semester, I again asked my students to prepare an essay and get back to me for feedback.My students said that they enjoyed reviewing their Strategic Planning Essay. There were a few things that were agreed upon by the class. The topics of this particular essay included: how important it is to plan; how important it is to structure the plan; and, the important issues of having an objective and creating a strategic plan, and defining key goals for the business.Some of the things that were discussed were the method that you use to create the strategic plan, what things sho uld be included in the plan, and if the plan was descriptive or prescriptive. However, the major thing that most of the students agreed on was that they would be willing to spend more time and effort into the process of writing their Strategic Plan and that they would like the opportunity to get feedback from their professors.This spring semester, we were able to get involved with several different options regarding the class' essays. One of the other options was a new course called Foundations of Entrepreneurship and Economics that is taught by my former student and colleague Dr. Barry Sears. This course was taught by a business professor and is now part of the University's Graduate College.Students of this course were able to write an essay on Strategic Planning and also write essays that were used to test the students on their ability to write well on these topics. In addition, many of the students were able to take a practice test in this course and write the same test as a tuto rial guide to help them write better future essays. As a bonus, Dr. Sears has introduced his new, Business Communication, course which includes a set of questions, a tutorial guide and assignment.It is possible to continue working with strategic planning in your career or personal life. One thing that is important is to continue learning and developing strategies to stay ahead of the competition. However, it is also important to realize that there is a time limit for strategies and that they must be implemented, not just talked about.I believe that when it comes to creating a Strategic Plan, it is important to identify the goals and use that as a foundation for the strategic plan itself. Creating a strategic plan with specific goals can help with planning for challenges and can be used to help steer the strategic plan toward the goal of success.You want to make sure that you are working towards success. Sometimes it is easier to focus on something small than it is to spend too much time and energy on something bigger. In addition, it is important to realize that you need to plan for the challenges ahead in order to plan for success.
